Preparations for implementing the Uniform Civil Code in Madhya Pradesh have gained momentum as Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav introduced the official UCC MP website, ucc.mp.gov.in. This step aims to involve the public in sharing opinions and suggestions before finalizing the legislation. Citizens can directly contribute their views and recommendations through the platform, fostering transparency and inclusivity in the process.
The deadline for submitting suggestions is set for June 15, 2026, allowing ample time for public input. The Uniform Civil Code initiative aims to establish a common set of rules for marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, and maintenance, irrespective of religious beliefs. Madhya Pradesh joins Uttarakhand and Gujarat in progressing towards implementing the UCC, aligning with the BJP’s commitment to a nationwide Uniform Civil Code as per Article 44 of the Indian Constitution.
Retired Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, heading the High-Level Committee on UCC, virtually participated in the website launch. The committee, formed in late April 2026, is responsible for creating a comprehensive framework for the code. The Madhya Pradesh government assures that all suggestions received through the portal will be carefully reviewed during the bill drafting process. This public consultation is a crucial step in fostering consensus on a historically sensitive issue.
