Madhya Pradesh Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar raised concerns about contaminated drinking water being supplied in Madina Nagar, a Muslim-majority residential area in Khajrana, Indore. Singhar, along with local Congress workers, inspected the water supply in Bhagirathpura, where contaminated water led to a diarrhoea outbreak and multiple deaths. During the inspection, residents voiced complaints about foul-smelling and visibly polluted water supplied in the mornings.
Singhar shared videos from the inspection, where locals expressed that the Narmada water provided was unsuitable for consumption. He criticized the Indore Municipal Corporation for allegedly supplying dirty water to Madina Nagar residents. Singhar also accused the corporation of pressuring residents to get tap water connections, charging exorbitant fees ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs 22,000 per household.
Speaking to the media, Singhar highlighted the lack of response from civic officials despite residents’ complaints. He criticized the BJP-led Indore Municipal Corporation for neglecting the situation in Madina Nagar and Bhagirathpura. Singhar expressed concerns over the government’s handling of the contaminated water issue, suggesting a potential cover-up and questioning the safety of water supply across Indore.
