In a move aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP), public universities in Madhya Pradesh will introduce 11 Indian languages as part of their academic curriculum. Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar directed universities in a recent meeting to implement these language courses, emphasizing the promotion of linguistic diversity and cultural integration as per NEP 2020 goals.
The designated languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Assamese, Bengali, Odia, and Sindhi, have been allocated to 12 state universities. Each university will develop curriculum frameworks and faculty support systems for the assigned languages within the academic credit structure. Additionally, Minister Parmar mandated SWAYAM online courses for all students to complement traditional learning and enhance digital skills.
Parmar’s agenda also focused on academic and administrative reforms, stressing the urgent recruitment for vacant teaching and non-teaching positions to enhance university operations. He emphasized the adherence to academic calendars for timely admissions, examinations, and result declarations, alongside advocating for digital evaluation of answer sheets to ensure examination credibility and transparency.
To address student welfare concerns, the Minister called for the improvement of hostel facilities and the establishment of inspection committees to evaluate infrastructure, food quality, and security in university hostels. Universities were further instructed to develop internal evaluation systems for assessing academic staff performance and expedite the resolution of employee-related issues through the CM Helpline portal.
