Madhya Pradesh’s Samardeep Singh Gill triumphed over Punjab’s Tajinderpal Singh Toor to secure gold in the men’s shot put event at the 29th National Senior Athletics Federation Competition. Gill’s throw of 20.46m in his fourth attempt surpassed Toor’s best effort of 20.07m, earning him the top spot. Additionally, Gill met the Commonwealth Games qualification mark of 20.36m.
In other events, Karnataka’s Yashas P and NCOE Trivandrum’s Santhosh Kumar T secured Commonwealth Games berths in the men’s 400m hurdles by clocking below the required 50.27 seconds. Yashas clinched gold in 49.00 seconds, with Santhosh Kumar finishing closely behind in 49.06 seconds. The men’s javelin title was claimed by Maharashtra’s Shivam Lohakare with a throw of 81.71m.
Odisha’s Animesh Kujur narrowly missed the Commonwealth Games qualification time in the men’s 200m, clocking 20.64 seconds. In the men’s 5,000m race, Karnataka’s Shivaji Parashuram emerged victorious in 14:14.43 seconds. Haryana’s Krishan Kumar secured gold in the men’s 800m event with a time of 1:47.68 seconds.
The men’s triple jump was won by JSW athlete Praveen Chithravel with a leap of 17.08m, surpassing the Commonwealth Games qualification mark. In the women’s events, Himachal Pradesh’s Kusum Thakur claimed the 200m title in 23.94 seconds. Reliance athlete Seema won gold in the women’s 5,000m with a time of 16:04.83.
Uttar Pradesh’s Khyati Mathur secured gold in the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.82m. Kerala’s Anamika KA emerged victorious in the women’s heptathlon with 5685 points. JSW’s Pooja clinched gold in the women’s 800m event in 2:02.42.
