Last year’s Australian Open finalists, Madison Keys and Aryna Sabalenka, have kicked off their 2026 campaigns impressively at the Brisbane International. Sabalenka, the current World No.1, dominated her opening match against Cristina Bucsa, while defending Australian Open champion Keys secured a solid victory against McCarthy Kessler.
Sabalenka showcased her power and precision by defeating Bucsa in a swift 47-minute match, reminiscent of their previous encounter at the US Open. The Belarusian’s near-flawless performance demonstrated her control from start to finish, securing a 6-0, 6-1 win with her strong serve and volley.
Keys, on the other hand, recorded her first Australian win since her major title victory last year, defeating Kessler 6-4, 6-3. Admitting to early nerves, Keys found her rhythm and emphasized her goal of challenging herself further in 2026, aiming to step out of her comfort zone and improve her game.
Both players expressed their determination to elevate their performance levels this season, with Sabalenka focusing on showcasing her hard work and Keys aiming to push herself beyond her comfort to achieve new heights on the court.
