Hollywood star Maggie Gyllenhaal recently discussed her experience directing her second film, ‘The Bride!’. Known for involving her family in the project, the 48-year-old actress cast Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale in a modern take on ‘The Bride of Frankenstein’. Her husband, Peter Sarsgaard, also stars in the movie, marking their reunion on screen. Additionally, Gyllenhaal directed her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, for the first time in a smaller role as a 1930s matinee idol named Ronnie Reed.
Acknowledging the challenges of directing the big-budget film, Gyllenhaal expressed both terror and excitement throughout the process. She described the experience of having her husband and brother on set as “amazing”. Gyllenhaal emphasized that ‘The Bride!’ celebrates the unconventional aspects of individuals, highlighting the parts that do not conform to societal norms. She explained that the movie embraces these unique qualities, whether they are viewed as monstrous or rebellious, creating a welcoming environment on set.
