An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck Afghanistan on Saturday evening, causing strong tremors in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and several other North Indian states. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that the earthquake’s epicenter was in Afghanistan and occurred at 7:04 p.m. local time.
The earthquake, which hit Afghanistan, had a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale. The tremors were felt in various parts of North India, including Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir. The earthquake’s details were shared by the NCS on social media platform X.
In April, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake had shaken the HinduKush region in Afghanistan, leading to tremors in parts of Pakistan. The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre reported that the earthquake had a depth of 199 km and a magnitude of 5.5.
Reports indicated that the earthquake in Afghanistan’s HinduKush region in April had a magnitude of 6.1, affecting areas in Pakistan as well. The earthquake’s depth was recorded at 190 km, with cities like Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Muzaffarabad experiencing tremors.
In February, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake had hit Islamabad, Swat, and Hunza. Tremors were also felt in Delhi-NCR and parts of North India, originating from Afghanistan at a depth of 150 km. The Meteorological Centre Srinagar reported that this earthquake measured 5.9 on the Richter scale.
