In a recent Cabinet Infrastructure Committee meeting, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed efforts to boost the state’s transportation network. The committee greenlit the 35 km Metro Line 8 project, connecting Mumbai’s airports. This high-speed corridor aims to cut travel time between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport.
The Metro Line 8, known as the Gold Line, will span 35 km, with 9.25 km underground and 24.636 km elevated. It features 20 stations, including crucial links from CSMIA Terminal 2 to NMIA Terminal 2. The project, costing Rs 22,862 crore, is set to enhance connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai significantly.
To expedite the project, CM Fadnavis instructed officials to secure land and approvals within six months. The goal is to complete the entire Metro Line 8 within three years. This move is crucial as Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to handle substantial air traffic, necessitating efficient connectivity between the airports.
CM Fadnavis also pushed for the acceleration of highway projects in Nashik and Gadchiroli to bolster connectivity in Eastern Maharashtra. These include the Nagpur-Gondia and Bhandara-Gadchiroli highway sections. The committee also fast-tracked the Nashik City Outer Ring Road and approved upgrading the Navegaon More – Konsari – Mulchera – Hedari – Surjagarh highway for mineral transport in Gadchiroli.
