Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, also in charge of the Home portfolio, revealed a comprehensive strategy to dismantle the financial and operational structures of the state’s narco-mafia. This initiative aims to enforce a zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking. Fadnavis highlighted the recent arrest of transnational drug lord Mohammad Salim Dola to justify the use of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against narcotics syndicates.
The Chief Minister emphasized that drug trafficking has evolved into a sophisticated, organized financial network resembling an underworld mafia. He stressed the necessity for a unified effort involving various departments to combat this issue effectively. Fadnavis announced the integration of specialized anti-drug units and enhanced testing facilities in police stations across urban and rural areas to strengthen the fight against narcotics.
In a bid to involve the public, the government introduced a reward system for individuals providing credible information on drug networks, ensuring complete anonymity for informants. Fadnavis also shared enforcement statistics from January to April 2026, revealing a significant number of drug-related cases and arrests during this period. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force and local police units have been actively engaged in operations against drug trafficking across Maharashtra.
The Opposition raised concerns about alleged collusion between certain police personnel and drug peddlers, pointing out instances of extortion and bribery within the force. Fadnavis acknowledged these issues and assured that stringent actions were being taken against any officer found involved in such activities. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining accountability within law enforcement and announced the establishment of a committee to lead the “Drug-Free Mumbai” campaign.
