Amid concerns of fuel shortages and surging prices, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis cautioned that strict actions would be taken against anyone hoarding fuel. Fadnavis attributed the recent petrol and diesel price increases to the ongoing global crisis, urging the public to refrain from panic-buying or hoarding. He emphasized that the government is prepared to crack down on those involved in fuel hoarding, with directives already issued to District Collectors for managing fuel supplies.
Acknowledging the anxiety surrounding potential fuel scarcity, Fadnavis highlighted the importance of diesel for agricultural needs and instructed Collectors to oversee supply management. He stressed the prevention of hoarding and systematic distribution of diesel based on necessity. While acknowledging localized tensions in some areas, Fadnavis reassured that the situation was not widespread, with efforts underway to address any emerging issues promptly.
Reports from Sambhajinagar district indicated the closure of 363 petrol pumps due to alleged fuel supply shortages, causing distress among the public. However, the Petrol Pump Owners’ Association clarified that only 60 pumps under their supervision had ceased operations. The government sources assured ongoing monitoring to avert panic and ensure the uninterrupted flow of essential goods. NCP(SP) legislator Rohit Pawar criticized the state government for the fuel supply disruptions, particularly affecting farmers during the crucial sowing season.
Pawar highlighted the impact of fuel shortages on agricultural activities, citing instances of long queues at pumps in Jalgaon district due to depleted stocks. Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s response, he criticized the prevailing conditions of paper leaks, inflation, and women’s safety issues. Pawar’s remarks underscored the need for swift government action to address the multifaceted challenges faced by the state.
