The President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, Harshwardhan Sapkal, expressed worry about the deaths of two MBA students reportedly due to an overdose following a music event on April 11. Sapkal criticized the alleged flourishing of illegal drug trade, pointing fingers at the BJP-Mahayuti government for pushing the state’s youth towards drug addiction. He highlighted the open consumption of alcohol and drugs at a live music concert in Goregaon’s NESCO complex.
Sapkal accused the police and government of inaction until the tragic deaths occurred, emphasizing a delayed response to the drug issue. He questioned the authorities’ failure to detect a large-scale drug party involving thousands of youngsters in Mumbai. The Congress Chief blamed the BJP-Mahayuti government for what he described as a failure to address the escalating drug problem among Maharashtra’s youth.
Sapkal further criticized the government for its alleged negligence towards drug-related incidents in various parts of the state, including Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Solapur. He raised concerns about influential figures being linked to drug cases within the government and demanded accountability for permitting large gatherings at events where drug and alcohol abuse were rampant. The Congress leader urged for a more proactive approach from the authorities to tackle the drug menace in Maharashtra.
