Maharashtra Congress Legislative Party Leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized the BJP government for resorting to religious polarization and emotional tactics to divert attention from failures amid economic challenges. He highlighted concerns over rising fuel prices, mentioning that diesel is now being rationed based on vehicle registration certificates, potentially leading to a lockdown-like situation. Wadettiwar also predicted further price hikes, with petrol possibly reaching Rs 170 per liter and diesel Rs 150 per liter soon.
He expressed worry about the impact on the middle class, farmers, and citizens due to fuel shortages and escalating prices, accusing the government of neglecting crucial issues. Wadettiwar accused the ruling party of stoking Hindu-Muslim conflicts to create societal rifts instead of addressing core problems. He criticized the government’s failure to resolve issues like fuel prices and farmers’ grievances, emphasizing the divisive tactics employed.
The Congress leader further criticized the government’s handling of the Maratha reservation matter, accusing them of making empty promises and failing to act on critical issues. He highlighted the demands for waiving Value Added Tax and surcharges on petrol and diesel to alleviate the burden on the common man. Former State Finance Minister Jayantrao Patil also urged the Maharashtra government to prioritize public welfare by addressing the economic strain caused by fuel price hikes.
