The Maharashtra Cyber department has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against stand-up comedians Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, Sejal Pawar, and others for allegedly circulating obscene and objectionable content on social media. The FIR was registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station, Maharashtra Cyber, under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
According to MahaCyber, the comedians were involved in sharing objectionable content through online platforms like YouTube and Instagram. The content, which includes remarks about women, consent, and deceased individuals, is said to violate societal norms and legal provisions. One clip allegedly featured Himanshu Jangra making inappropriate remarks about physical intimacy in exchange for money spent on a date, while another clip by Sejal Pawar contained derogatory comments about deceased male bodies.
The investigation by Maharashtra Cyber revealed that the content shared by the comedians was disrespectful and against public decency. It is alleged that the content was created to boost viewership, engage the audience, and generate financial gains through online monetization. The Maharashtra Cyber department, under the Additional Director General of Police, is responsible for handling cyber-related matters in the state and continues to monitor online platforms to maintain public order and societal interests.
