The Maharashtra government has reversed its decision to conduct physical verification of ineligible beneficiaries under the Ladki Bahin Yojana. Instead, the deadline for correcting e-KYC details online has been extended until March 31. This move comes after complaints from beneficiaries facing challenges with the e-KYC process.
State Women and Child Welfare Minister Aditi Tatkare mentioned that eligible sisters who have completed e-KYC but not received benefits can now rectify their information online until March 31, 2026. Initially, Anganwadi workers had opposed the physical verification plan due to increased workload and lack of incentives.
An error in the e-KYC process wrongly classified over 24 lakh beneficiaries as state government employees, leading to the suspension of their Rs 1,500 monthly assistance. Consequently, the Women and Child Welfare Department had instructed nearly one lakh Anganwadi workers to physically verify these affected beneficiaries. The e-KYC exercise aims to address issues like male members benefiting from the scheme or government employees being wrongly registered.
