The Maharashtra government has announced measures against app-based taxi companies for exploiting passengers. Following concerns raised by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde regarding these services pressuring passengers for tips and extra fares, State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has swiftly addressed the issue. Minister Sarnaik has instructed the Transport Commissioner to take strict action against the companies involved in such exploitative practices.
Instances of drivers demanding additional tips, canceling trips for non-compliance with demands, and causing distress to passengers have been reported. MP Shrikant Shinde expressed strong disapproval on social media and called for immediate government intervention. Minister Sarnaik emphasized the unjust nature of forcing passengers to pay tips and has directed an investigation into the operations of the concerned aggregator companies.
The Transport Department will implement significant measures to curb exploitative practices by app-based taxi services. A new Aggregator Policy for this sector is set to be introduced soon to address these issues. Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde has been advocating for consumer rights, ensuring transparent and fair services for commuters. The government’s prompt response is expected to provide relief to numerous passengers affected by these practices.
