Maharashtra Labour Minister Akash Phundkar has instructed four independent expert committees of the labour department to engage in detailed discussions with the Joint Action Committee of Labour Unions regarding the draft rules aligned with the Central government’s new Labour Codes. The minister emphasized the importance of thoroughly understanding the opinions and suggestions of labour organizations before submitting a joint report to the Union Ministry of Labour. Key office bearers and representatives from major labour movements and unions participated in the meeting chaired by Phundkar, where he highlighted the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of the state’s labourers and employees.
To ensure transparency and inclusiveness, the state government has set up four independent expert committees to work closely with the Joint Action Committee of Labour Unions for comprehensive deliberations. The labour minister has directed the immediate release of an official schedule for consultative meetings to make the discussions meaningful and not just a formality. Phundkar assured union representatives that all reasonable demands, suggestions, and objections would be duly noted, emphasizing that workers’ rights and social security will be prioritized without compromise.
Upon the conclusion of the consultation process between the expert committees and labour unions, a detailed joint report encompassing all findings and recommendations will be compiled. This comprehensive report will then be submitted to the Union Ministry of Labour for approval and further action, as stated by the minister.
