In response to rumors of a potential fuel crisis, Maharashtra’s Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Minister, Chhagan Bhujbal, reassured the public on Friday that the state has abundant stocks of petrol and diesel. Bhujbal urged citizens to avoid panic buying and unnecessary hoarding to prevent any shortages. He highlighted a 20% increase in petrol and diesel sales due to panic-driven purchases in May.
To address public concerns, Minister Bhujbal shared fuel sales data from various districts in Maharashtra to demonstrate that supply chains are functioning smoothly. He emphasized the need for patience, advised purchasing fuel based on immediate requirements, and called for cooperation with local authorities. The Minister’s reassurance comes amidst global geopolitical tensions affecting crude oil prices and domestic supply stability worries.
Amidst social media-fueled rumors of an impending fuel shortage, long queues formed at petrol pumps, straining local logistics and temporarily depleting some fuel stations. Minister Bhujbal’s efforts to dispel fears and restore normalcy include releasing official data to ensure adequate reserves, stabilize consumption rates, and prevent artificial inflation or black-marketing of fuel. Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies in Maharashtra have also confirmed the normal and uninterrupted availability of essential petroleum products.
