Even before polling, the ruling Mahayuti alliance has secured 68 of the 69 uncontested seats in the municipal corporation elections across Maharashtra. The BJP emerged as the biggest gainer, winning unopposed in 44 seats, giving them an early advantage.
Leaders of the ruling parties made efforts to persuade rebels to withdraw nominations across the state. In Solapur, clashes within the BJP led to the death of a party worker, prompting police intervention. In Nashik, tensions rose over ticket allotments, while in Mumbai, some BJP rebels refused to withdraw from certain wards.
The Thackeray brothers faced challenges convincing rebels to withdraw in nine wards. In Nagpur, a BJP rebel was confined by supporters until he complied with party directives. The Congress engaged in convincing rebels to withdraw, promising them larger roles.
A total of 69 candidates have been elected unopposed in the municipal corporation elections, with the BJP holding 44 seats, Shiv Sena 22, NCP two, and the Islamic Party one. Municipal-wise, the BJP secured the most unopposed candidates in Kalyan with 15 seats.
