Maharashtra NCP President Sunil Tatkare addressed concerns regarding the swearing-in of Sunetra Pawar as Deputy Chief Minister, stating that it was not rushed. Tatkare emphasized that the ceremony occurred after the completion of a three-day mourning period, ensuring no haste was involved. He highlighted the procedural steps taken, including a legislative party meeting and formal request to the Governor for the oath ceremony.
Tatkare further explained that decisions within the NCP were made under Ajit Pawar’s leadership, leading to their alliance with the NDA and subsequent electoral experiences. Despite setbacks in previous elections, the party achieved success in the Assembly polls, securing 41 seats under the ‘Clock’ symbol. The process to elect a new leader was initiated following Ajit Pawar’s unfortunate passing, a move deemed necessary by Tatkare.
Responding to inquiries about a potential merger between NCP factions, Tatkare downplayed the significance of ongoing discussions. He referenced statements from party members, including Sharad Pawar, regarding meetings with Ajit Pawar on the merger issue. Tatkare emphasized the need for clarity on the circumstances surrounding these talks, indicating a lack of urgency on their part.
NCP working president Praful Patel reiterated the party’s focus on its current structure and leadership, dismissing speculations about hypothetical scenarios. Patel stressed that decisions regarding the party’s future direction remain internal and under the purview of existing leadership. He underscored the party’s support for Sunetra Pawar’s appointment as Deputy Chief Minister, highlighting the family’s mourning period and the subsequent timing of the swearing-in ceremony.
