Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the resolution of a 20-year water dispute, allowing Maharashtra to receive 10 TMC of water. A decision was made to lift 5 TMC directly from the Ukai Dam, following a meeting with the chief ministers of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Fadnavis highlighted that Maharashtra had received only electricity post the Narmada Project, with its rightful share of 10 TMC of water pending allocation. The meeting addressed this grievance and resolved outstanding funds and issues. Maharashtra’s owed amount has been reduced to Rs 27 crore, with previous dues waived.
Maharashtra’s request for 5 TMC of water through the Narmada-Tapi diversion scheme and another 5 TMC from the Ukai project was positively addressed in the meeting. Gujarat agreed to permit Maharashtra to lift water during the monsoon season when the Ukai Dam is full. Fadnavis expressed gratitude to Amit Shah, Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, and the Gujarat chief minister for their support.
The Maharashtra government is devising a plan to lift water from the Ukai Dam, benefiting North Maharashtra. Additionally, Fadnavis discussed a review meeting on the state’s renewable energy sector, where Maharashtra received the highest allocation of KUSUM scheme funds in India. The Union minister urged the state to set ambitious targets under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with Maharashtra pledging to implement necessary reforms for effective scheme execution.
