In a significant development, the Maharashtra State Government has announced a substantial salary and allowance hike for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) employees. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik disclosed the details of the financial benefits during the state legislature’s monsoon session. The Dearness Allowance for ST employees has been raised by five percent, from 53 percent to 58 percent, and the House Rent Allowance (HRA) slabs have been increased as well.
This revision sees the HRA rates of 8, 16, and 24 percent being elevated to 10, 20, and 30 percent respectively, based on the city tier. Additionally, the annual salary increment rate has been enhanced from 2 percent to 3 percent. The salary hike, aimed at improving the welfare of MSRTC staff, will result in an extra financial burden of Rs 45 crore per month on the organization.
Minister Sarnaik emphasized that the primary goal was to ensure fairness and rights for the MSRTC workforce, despite the increased financial strain on the corporation. This move addresses the persistent grievances of MSRTC employees regarding low pay scales, leading to widespread appreciation among the workforce. Minister Sarnaik also issued a strict warning against illegal activities in the private transport sector, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach towards unauthorized transportation of parcels and cargo.
