Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly accepting defeat before the elections and campaigning on the basis of religion and Pakistan. She emphasized that her party does not partake in such strategies. This response follows Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi dismissing Sarma’s accusations linking him and his wife to Pakistan as baseless.
Gogoi denounced Sarma’s claims, labeling them as a sign of the Chief Minister’s vulnerability and extreme measures regarding national security issues. Sarma had accused Gogoi and his British wife of having connections with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, leading to the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter.
Lamba highlighted the cancellation of a female candidate’s nomination by Sarma after she was fielded against him, citing it as a move driven by fear and insecurity. She criticized the Chief Minister for soliciting votes using religious and Pakistan-related rhetoric, contrasting it with her party’s approach that avoids such divisive tactics. Lamba also condemned the injection of Pakistan into political discussions, urging against inciting communal tensions.
