In Mizoram, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with other agencies, conducted three significant operations resulting in the seizure of foreign cigarettes and methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 35.71 crore. The operations led to the apprehension of four drug peddlers.
One operation in southern Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district thwarted a major drug trafficking attempt, recovering one lakh methamphetamine tablets worth over Rs 30 crore. The tablets were skillfully concealed inside a server hardware apparatus.
Another operation in the Seling area of Aizawl district intercepted a truck loaded with foreign cigarettes, resulting in the recovery of 218 cartons valued at approximately Rs 5.23 crore. The individual involved was handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation.
In a separate operation, based on credible intelligence, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police intercepted a consignment along the Aizawl road areas of Champhai district. The search yielded 20 cases of illegal foreign-origin cigarettes with an estimated market value of approximately Rs 48 lakh.
These operations highlight Assam Rifles’ dedication to combating illegal smuggling activities along the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram. The force, along with sister agencies, remains committed to ensuring security and peace in the region.
