Law enforcement agencies in Mizoram have conducted operations resulting in the seizure of methamphetamine tablets and heroin worth approximately Rs 36 crore. Seven drug peddlers, including three Myanmar nationals, have been apprehended in these operations. The Narcotics Control Bureau, along with the SIB of Mizoram and the State Excise and Narcotics Department, carried out coordinated raids along the India-Myanmar border, leading to the confiscation of 36.434 kg of methamphetamine tablets and 905 grams of heroin.
In a separate incident, police in Champhai district seized heroin and methamphetamine tablets valued at over Rs 4.88 crore along the India-Myanmar border. Three individuals, including two Myanmar nationals, were arrested in this operation. The seizure took place during routine surveillance near Chhungte village, a key transit point close to the international border with Myanmar.
During the operations, a suspicious car was intercepted by police, and while inspecting the vehicle, a scooter passed by the area at high speed, prompting a chase. The riders of the scooter abandoned the vehicle and tried to escape on foot but were eventually caught by the police. The arrested individuals were identified as Lalhriathlua, Kaplianmanga, and Lalnunzira, residents of Mizoram and Chin State of Myanmar.
Mizoram Police hailed the seizure as a significant achievement in combating narcotics trafficking in the region. Cases have been registered under relevant acts, and investigations are ongoing to trace the origins and distribution network of the seized drugs. Methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba, are a banned substance in India due to their addictive nature.
