The upcoming movie “Batwara 1947” has revealed its first motion poster featuring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, and Shabana Azmi. The poster offers a glimpse into the pain, fear, and courage related to India’s partition. Sunny Deol shared the visual on Instagram, showing chaos, displacement, and survival.
Sunny Deol is depicted running amid chaos in the motion poster, with images of people caught in violence behind him. The poster then shows Sunny holding a flaming torch, seemingly protecting his family, including Preity Zinta. The background reflects a conflict-ridden environment.
The caption on the poster reads, “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage. Watch #Batwara1947 in theatres from 14th August 2026.” The film, previously named “Lahore 1947,” is set to release a teaser on June 15. It marks Sunny Deol’s collaboration with Rajkumar Santoshi after movies like ‘Ghayal’ and ‘Damini.’
The narrative of the film is said to be based on Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya, O Jamyai Nai,’ focusing on human relationships affected by communal violence during Partition. The story revolves around a Hindu family moving from Lahore to India and discovering an elderly Muslim woman in their new home. Sunny Deol’s last appearance was in “Border 2,” a sequel to J. P. Dutta’s film set during the India–Pakistan war of 1971.
