Popular Malayalam actor Maniyanpillai Raju was arrested by Museum Police in connection with a hit-and-run incident where two men on a motorcycle were seriously injured. Following his arrest, he underwent a mandatory medical examination and was later granted bail.
Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner K. Karthik stated that the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police have been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation and submitting a report. The authorities emphasized that the legal process will proceed based on the investigative findings.
The accident occurred late at night in front of the Trivandrum Club. It gained public attention as the vehicle involved did not stop at the scene after the collision. Raju, speaking briefly to reporters before entering the police station, claimed that the motorcycle had hit his car from behind. He admitted to driving the vehicle during the incident but mentioned that he left the scene out of panic.
Raju cited health issues, revealing that he is undergoing cancer treatment and recovering from chikungunya. He clarified that he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The car involved in the mishap is registered under the name Sudheer Kumar Raju, the actor’s official name as per records.
The injured individuals, identified as Nivedith Krishna and Sooraj, suffered severe injuries during the collision. Nivedith sustained leg fractures, while Sooraj suffered spinal injuries. An FIR has been filed, and the police are currently investigating the case. The vehicle involved has yet to be impounded, as Raju informed authorities that it is parked at Jawahar Nagar.
