The Ahmedabad Police have apprehended a male nurse regarding the reported molestation of a semi-conscious female patient in a private hospital’s intensive care unit in the Sabarmati area. The arrest came after the survivor filed a complaint on January 27. Identified as Indrajit Rathod, the accused worked as a staff nurse at the Metis hospital in Chamanpura, Asarwa.
According to the filed first information report at Sabarmati police station, the woman was admitted to the hospital following a suicide attempt with sleeping pills. The complainant, facing mental stress due to marital issues, had moved in with her parents. Her deteriorating condition led to ICU admission, where she alleged that the accused inappropriately touched her while she was semi-conscious and medicated.
The survivor claimed that the male nurse exploited her vulnerable state by touching sensitive areas of her body. Upon partially regaining consciousness and raising an alarm, the accused reportedly fled the scene. Inspector Y R Waghela of Sabarmati police mentioned that a molestation case was registered based on the survivor’s statement, highlighting the accused’s alleged misconduct in the ICU.
Police noted a delay in the complaint due to the survivor’s medical and mental condition post-incident. The woman informed her family promptly, leading to her father’s request for CCTV footage from the hospital, initially denied by the authorities. Subsequent investigation, including CCTV footage review and staff duty scrutiny, identified Rathod as the suspect. The accused, with no prior criminal record, has been detained for further inquiry.
