Bollywood stars like Alia Bhatt are shining at the Cannes film festival 2026, and Mallika Sherawat reminisces about her first Cannes appearance with Jackie Chan. About 20 years ago, she turned heads with a bold outfit, a low-cut blouse paired with a ghagra, during her Cannes red carpet debut. Mallika reflects that what was once considered excessive is now considered normal in today’s times.
Sharing her throwback moment on Instagram, Mallika posted, “My first time at the Cannes Film Festival, with Jackie Chan 20 years ago! I wore a dangerously low-cut blouse with a ghagra… and it set off a storm!” She further mentioned how her attire made headlines and even got her compared to the legendary Brigitte Bardot by Iconic Time magazine. For a girl from a small town, the experience felt surreal back then, being labeled as “too much,” which is now deemed as usual.
In addition, Mallika showcased some of her Cannes looks from different years on social media, questioning the transformation from being labeled “too much” in the 2000s to “iconic” in the 2020s, all while remaining the same woman. Notably, Mallika Sherawat starred alongside Jackie Chan in the 2005 film “The Myth,” portraying the character Samantha, an Indian peasant girl in the storyline directed by Stanley Tong.
Mallika Sherawat made her acting debut in 2002 with “Jeena Sirf Merre Liye” and gained fame for her bold role in “Murder” in 2004, where she starred opposite Emraan Hashmi. Her filmography includes notable movies like “Khwahish,” “Bachke Rehna Re Baba,” “Pyaar Ke Side Effects,” “Aap Ka Suroor – The Real Love Story,” “Welcome,” and “Kis Kis Ki Kismat.”
