Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge was sworn in as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Monday after being re-elected from Karnataka. The oath-taking ceremony took place in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan in Parliament. Present at the ceremony were Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several other senior leaders including Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.
Kharge, along with three other candidates, was declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka on June 11. The elections were held to fill four Rajya Sabha seats from the state following the completion of the terms of sitting members. Kharge expressed his gratitude towards various leaders and party members for their support and faith in him throughout his public life and Parliamentary service. He emphasized the importance of coordination among political parties during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament to ensure government accountability.
Kharge reiterated the Opposition’s commitment to raising issues affecting the people and ensuring their concerns are addressed in Parliament. He pledged to continue representing the voices and aspirations of the people with sincerity and determination, highlighting that it remains the foremost responsibility of the Opposition.
