Mamata Banerjee, the former Chief Minister of West Bengal and current leader of a faction in the Trinamool Congress, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to disrupt the Martyrs’ Day rally her faction organized. She alleged that BJP activists tried to vandalize the protest rally stage in Central Kolkata.
Upon receiving this information, Mamata Banerjee, accompanied by her nephew Abhishek Banerjee and other faction leaders, rushed to the rally venue and took turns guarding the stage throughout the night. She expressed concerns about their supporters being prevented from attending the meeting, citing instances of vandalism and disruptions by alleged BJP-backed individuals.
Mamata Banerjee emphasized that her faction had organized the rally following an order from Kolkata and criticized the police for allegedly attempting to disrupt it. She warned of filing a contempt of court petition against the state government and police administration if such disruptions continued. Meanwhile, the West Bengal unit of Congress also reported incidents of its supporters being obstructed from attending a parallel rally in Kolkata.
