Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee are set to participate in the opposition INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi today. The meeting holds particular significance for the duo within the INDIA bloc, especially following the recent West Bengal election defeat.
The focus will be on how Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee navigate the meeting to secure support from other INDIA allies amidst the party’s ongoing challenges post-election loss. Trinamool Congress, under Mamata Banerjee’s leadership, is grappling with internal strife as a significant faction has split and formed its own group in the Assembly.
With most Trinamool Congress MPs, both from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, currently in New Delhi, attention is keenly on the party’s internal dynamics and the outcomes of the INDIA bloc gathering. Abhishek Banerjee arrived in the capital on Saturday, while Mamata Banerjee joined on Sunday evening.
Abhishek Banerjee’s presence in New Delhi for the meeting has led to the postponement of his appearance at the West Bengal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in connection with a probe into signature discrepancies among Trinamool Congress legislators. This marks the second time Abhishek Banerjee has missed the CID summons, the first being on June 1.
A crucial legal hearing is scheduled for June 10 in Kolkata concerning Abhishek Banerjee’s petition challenging the CID notice and seeking protection from potential police actions, including arrest, in the ongoing investigation.
