West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her dismay at the current Chief Election Commissioner’s behavior, labeling him as “arrogant” and a “liar.” Following a meeting with the Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, Banerjee criticized the targeting of West Bengal in the ongoing special voter list revision. She accused ECI’s Director General, Seema Khanna, of orchestrating the deletion of genuine voters’ names in the state, alleging her affiliation with the BJP’s IT Cell.
Banerjee further stated that due to the perceived arrogance and disrespect faced by her party’s delegation, she decided to boycott the meeting with the ECI midway. She compared the Commissioner’s actions to blindly following BJP directives, emphasizing the targeted focus on West Bengal by the current CEC. Banerjee questioned the rushed nature of the voter list revision in West Bengal and highlighted the appointment of special observers for the state.
The Chief Minister criticized the CEC for allegedly acting as a mouthpiece for the ruling party and questioned the selective implementation of the special intensive revision. She raised concerns over the absence of similar actions in Assam and challenged the Commissioner to demand the Prime Minister’s parents’ birth certificates. Banerjee also questioned the presence of only ECI’s cameraman at the meeting, questioning the lack of other media representatives.
