Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the Election Commission of India on National Voters’ Day, accusing them of depriving West Bengal residents of their voting rights under the guise of a Special Intensive Revision exercise. Banerjee expressed dismay at the Commission’s actions, stating that they were working in favor of the BJP government at the Centre.
Banerjee further lambasted the poll panel for allegedly disregarding the Supreme Court’s directives and using various pretexts to impede people’s voting rights. She accused the Election Commission of causing distress and deaths in West Bengal due to the Special Intensive Revision exercise.
The Chief Minister condemned the Commission’s actions, highlighting the reported deaths and stress inflicted on individuals, particularly the elderly and physically challenged, as a result of the stringent verification process. She criticized the Commission for what she perceived as undermining democracy and stated that they had no right to celebrate National Voters’ Day.
