Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee criticized Ritabrata Banerjee, an expelled Trinamool Congress legislator without directly naming him. She mentioned his expulsion from the CPI-M in 2017 when he was a CPI-M Rajya Sabha member. Mamata Banerjee revealed that after his expulsion from the CPI-M, he sought rehabilitation from her. She further stated that they initially nominated him to the Rajya Sabha and later as the party candidate from Uluberia (Purba). However, Mamata Banerjee expressed disappointment over his alleged betrayal, leading to his expulsion along with another party legislator.
In a live social media message, Mamata Banerjee also criticized Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a four-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member who recently resigned from all organizational posts. She accused a fellow party Lok Sabha member of disrespecting women MPs from the party. Mamata Banerjee highlighted that the disgruntled MP was upset over not receiving a nomination for her son in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections. She emphasized that nominations cannot be granted solely based on the parents’ political positions, pointing out that apart from herself and Abhishek Banerjee, no other family members hold elected public representative positions.
The venue for Mamata Banerjee’s sit-in demonstration in Kolkata on Tuesday, protesting against the demolition of illegal buildings and eviction of encroaching hawkers, has been changed by the Trinamool Congress. Initially planned at Rani Rashmoni Avenue, the protest was relocated to the nearby Y-channel from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. following Kolkata Police’s denial of permission at the original location.
