West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee voiced worries that the police, acting on Election Commission of India (ECI) directives, may detain Trinamool Congress booth agents just before elections to conduct voting without their presence. Addressing a rally in Pingla, she urged supporters to have backup agents ready in case of arrests, even suggesting family members step in if needed.
Banerjee pledged to go to great lengths to reinstate voters whose names were removed from the list due to legal processes. She assured her supporters of her commitment, mentioning her efforts in the Supreme Court and on the ground to rectify the deletions and promising to continue fighting for their inclusion.
Accusing the ECI of causing distress to the public through a revision process, Banerjee highlighted the loss of 250 lives in West Bengal. She urged voters to seek retribution through their ballots, emphasizing that supporting Trinamool Congress would be a form of retaliation against the alleged harassment.
In a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Banerjee criticized what she described as a particularly malicious political strategy, unprecedented in her extensive political career. Despite this, she remained confident that the BJP’s tactics would not succeed in their goal to take control of West Bengal, vowing to counter their moves and ensure their defeat.
