Amid a wave of resignations by former Trinamool Congress leaders relinquishing their organizational roles, Mamata Banerjee, the party’s chief, has revamped the internal disciplinary committee. The new committee comprises Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, Asima Patra, and Subhasish Chakraborty. Notably, ex-ministers Firhad Hakim and Aroop Biswas have been replaced in this reshuffle.
Political analysts are skeptical about the longevity of the current internal disciplinary committee structure, given the recent spate of resignations by prominent Trinamool legislators. The party’s national working committee, which met at Mamata Banerjee’s residence in South Kolkata, decided on the reconstitution of the committee. Additionally, the committee welcomed Nadimul Haque as a new member.
In November 2024, Trinamool had established three distinct internal disciplinary committees at different levels. However, due to internal rifts, many members have switched sides. In response, Mamata Banerjee has consolidated these committees into a single entity with just five members.
