Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee returned to Kolkata from New Delhi, sparking speculation about a potential re-merger between the Trinamool Congress and the Congress. This speculation arose after Mamata Banerjee met with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, held a separate meeting with Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.
Upon her arrival in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee faced questions from the media regarding the rumored re-merger between the Trinamool Congress and the Congress. However, she chose not to comment and swiftly left the scene.
The Trinamool Congress was founded by Mamata Banerjee on January 1, 1998, after she parted ways with the Congress. The current leader of the new bloc within the Trinamool Congress Legislative Party, Ritabrata Banerjee, dismissed any possibility of a re-merger with the Congress.
Ritabrata Banerjee emphasized that their bloc is the primary representation of the Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal Assembly, with a growing number of legislators. State Congress leaders in West Bengal also expressed doubts about the likelihood of a re-merger, highlighting key conditions that would need to be met for any potential reunion with the Congress.
