Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee rode a scooter to Padmapukur after hearing that police had detained her party leaders, Kunal Ghosh and Baishwanor Chatterjee. She later returned home in Kalighat on the same scooter. Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) and its IT wing had planned a protest march in Kolkata against the NEET question paper leak, starting from Padmapukur. Despite initially being granted permission, the police later revoked it, citing unrest during a Left protest. The TMCP then approached the Calcutta High Court, which dismissed their plea due to the previous day’s disturbances.
As tensions rose, police dispersed the gathering at Padmapukur, leading to clashes with Trinamool members. Kunal Ghosh and Baishwanor Chatterjee were detained, prompting Mamata Banerjee to visit the scene with Derek O’Brien. Banerjee accused the police of targeting opposition voices, causing a temporary road blockage upon her arrival.
