In a strategic move to strengthen her authority within the party amidst internal turmoil, Mamata Banerjee assumed the role of Trinamool Congress West Bengal state president after Chandrima Bhattacharya’s resignation. Following Bhattacharya’s departure, Mamata Banerjee, in a Facebook Live session, declared her decision to personally lead the state branch instead of appointing a successor. She also named Kunal Ghosh and Madan Mitra as the party’s state general secretaries in West Bengal, emphasizing their loyalty.
Mamata Banerjee, addressing the legislators and leaders aligned with the expelled faction led by Ritabrata Banerjee, urged them to join the Bharatiya Janata Party directly rather than claiming allegiance to the “real Trinamool Congress.” She expressed confidence in the support of the common people and grassroots workers, asserting her determination to continue her political journey regardless of challenges. Additionally, she assured the continuation of the party’s annual Martyrs’ Day rally on July 21, confirming plans to hold the event at its traditional venue in Central Kolkata.
