West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to commence an indefinite sit-in protest at Esplanade East in Central Kolkata starting Friday afternoon. Trinamool Congress workers and leaders will gather at the venue in the morning, with the Chief Minister expected to join around 2 p.m.
The demonstration’s primary objectives include ensuring no legitimate voter is excluded from the voters’ list and advocating against conducting the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections while 63 lakh cases are still under judicial review. The sit-in location is close to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office in West Bengal.
A substantial stage has been erected at the protest site, hinting at a potentially prolonged demonstration. Notably, the CPI(M) recently concluded a 24-hour sit-in protest at the CEO’s office with similar demands. The Left Front chairman, Biman Bose, stated that their representatives will echo these demands during interactions with the Election Commission of India on March 9.
The Congress party has also communicated its demand to the ECI, emphasizing the need for elections post the completion of the judicial review process.
