A man and a woman, both wearing masks and carrying bags, were seen entering the home of Delhi professor Debosmita Paul on June 3, the day she was believed to have been killed. They spent nearly half an hour inside before leaving. Investigators are determining the timing of their visit in relation to the murder.
Debosmita Paul, an Assistant Professor at Shivaji College, University of Delhi, was found dead in her flat at Satyam Apartments in Vasundhara Enclave, east Delhi. The murder is suspected to have occurred on June 3, a day before the discovery. The duo arrived at the residential complex in a private cab around 3:20 p.m., with the cab driver waiting outside.
The man and woman, carrying bags, were captured on CCTV footage avoiding the lift and using the staircase to access the flat. They spent around thirty minutes inside before departing, appearing in different clothes as they left. Police are investigating their potential involvement in the crime and the sequence of events surrounding the murder.
The cab driver has been detained for questioning, and authorities are analyzing the ride details to identify the passengers. Surveillance footage is being reviewed to piece together the events. Initial findings suggest no forced entry at the crime scene, indicating a possible acquaintance with the perpetrator. This has led to speculation about a “friendly entry” scenario.
Debosmita Paul, who lived alone in her sister’s apartment following a separation from her husband in 2022, was discovered by her sister, Devarati Paul, after unanswered calls raised concerns. Her body was found with severe head injuries and wrist injuries. A post-mortem examination is ongoing to determine the cause and time of death. The investigation includes questioning neighbors, domestic staff, and other relevant individuals.
