A man has been arrested for the murder of his elder brother, Neeraj Jaiswal, in central Kolkata’s Park Street area. The accused, identified as Dheeraj Jaiswal, allegedly killed his 55-year-old brother following a family dispute over property. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, leading to the arrest of the accused by officers from Park Street police station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the tragic event unfolded between 6.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaiswal family comprises three brothers, with the youngest sibling being unwell and residing with the accused, Dheeraj, at their Park Street home. Neeraj, the deceased, resided in the Chaltabagan area and had visited the Park Street residence on the fateful evening.
Allegedly, the visit was misconstrued by Dheeraj as a discussion on property division rather than a familial visit. This misunderstanding sparked a heated argument between the brothers, culminating in a physical altercation. Tragically, Neeraj sustained fatal injuries after being pushed, hitting his head on a brick and subsequently bleeding profusely. Despite being rushed to Nil Ratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries late that night.
In response to the incident, the deceased’s son lodged a formal complaint against his uncle, Dheeraj, at the Park Street police station. Subsequently, Dheeraj was interrogated and later apprehended by the authorities. The Kolkata Police have indicated that Neeraj’s body will undergo a post-mortem examination, with forensic samples collected from the scene for further investigation.
A senior officer from the Kolkata Police mentioned that the arrest of the accused was made promptly following the murder complaint. While initial assessments suggest a crime of passion, a comprehensive investigation is underway to ascertain the precise circumstances that led to the tragic altercation.
