The Commissionerate Police arrested a 40-year-old man from West Bengal for deceiving a job seeker by pretending to be a promoted IAS officer in the Odisha Government. The accused, identified as Rabinarayan Das from Kendrapada district, was apprehended in connection with a case filed at Lingaraj Police Station based on a complaint by the victim, Manoranjan Pradhan.
Investigations revealed that Das, along with co-accused Manoj Kumar Lenka, falsely claimed to be an IAS officer and promised the victim a job as Deputy General Manager at the Odisha Mining Corporation. The victim, Pradhan, paid a total of Rs 20 lakh to the accused through online transactions and cash after being provided with fake appointment and interview letters from the corporation.
Police scrutiny of bank transactions and other records confirmed that the accused had defrauded the victim of Rs 20 lakh by impersonating a senior government official and presenting forged recruitment documents. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided Das’s hideout in Hooghly district, West Bengal, leading to his arrest.
Verification of Das’s criminal history revealed his involvement in a previous job fraud case at Lingaraj Police Station and a cyber fraud case at Jajpur Cyber Police Station in Odisha. In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man was also arrested by the Commissionerate police for posing as an additional Superintendent of Police and engaging in a physical altercation in Bhubaneswar’s Kharavelnagar police limits.
