In a stroke of luck, Rakesh Gond from Panna district, Madhya Pradesh, unearthed an 11.19-carat white diamond, which could significantly change his family’s fortunes. This find comes after his family previously discovered a 19.22-carat diamond in the same area. Rakesh, a laborer, stumbled upon the valuable gem while mining in the Ahirguwa mines of Panna.
The discovered diamond, with an estimated value of up to Rs 40 lakh, was found in a pit leased by Rakesh, measuring 8 by 8 meters. Using basic tools, he spotted the gem while sifting through mud and promptly informed his family before submitting it to the Government Diamond Office in Panna. Experts have lauded the diamond’s quality and shape, predicting a successful auction where it could fetch a substantial sum.
Hailing from a humble tribal background, Rakesh expressed immediate recognition of the diamond upon discovery. The family intends to utilize the windfall sensibly by repaying debts, investing in agriculture, upgrading their residence, and prioritizing their children’s education. Panna, renowned for its historical diamond reserves, continues to offer life-altering opportunities to local miners, with recent discoveries like Mira Singh’s 6.45-carat diamond further enhancing the region’s legacy.
