A man named Sampath Dandagi from Gadag city, Karnataka, reportedly died by suicide after facing continuous harassment and threats from moneylenders regarding a loan. Sampath, who owned a bookstore and was involved in real estate, left a video and a detailed death note before hanging himself, attributing the extreme step to the lenders’ actions. He had borrowed Rs 15 lakh and was paying Rs 56,000 monthly as interest, but when he missed a payment, the lenders allegedly started harassing him.
Sampath’s family assured the lenders of repaying the loan in installments, but the harassment persisted. The family accused individuals named Ravi Shivanagutti, Shashi Shivanagutti, and Dharma Gouda Kari Gouda of threatening Sampath and his wife. In a pre-recorded video, Sampath expressed immense frustration, citing unbearable suffering due to the lenders’ harassment, leading him to take his own life.
His wife mentioned that the lenders subjected Sampath to relentless harassment, with Kari Gouda and Ravi Shivanagutti specifically mentioned for their threatening behavior. Sampath’s mother revealed that he feared ongoing harassment for the family if he remained alive, prompting his decision to end his life. The incident has highlighted concerns about an alleged illegal high-interest lending network in the Gadag-Betageri area, despite previous police actions against such activities.
