A man lost his life in a low-intensity explosion on the Delhi-Rajpura railway track near Shambhu town in Punjab’s Patiala district. The incident, suspected to be caused by a bomb being planted, resulted in the man’s death due to the explosion. His severely mutilated body was found near the blast site.
Authorities are investigating whether the blast was an act of sabotage or part of a larger scheme. Forensic teams are actively working to ascertain the precise nature of the blast. Deputy Inspector General Kuldeep Chahal and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varun Sharma promptly arrived at the scene post the explosion.
Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased individual may have died while attempting to plant the bomb. The investigation is in its early stages. The explosion caused damage to the railway tracks near Shambhu, leading to a temporary halt in train services as a precautionary measure.
SSP Sharma commended the swift response that averted any further incidents. He assured that the area is secure, with an ongoing probe to identify the perpetrators. The individual involved in the incident died on-site, with no casualties or property damage reported.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal criticized the incident, labeling it as a severe intelligence lapse that resulted in the cowardly blast attempt on the Delhi-Rajpura railway track near Shambhu. Badal urged Punjab Chief Minister @BhagwantMann, also the Home Minister, to take immediate measures to safeguard critical infrastructure.
