A man in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, has been sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 for sexually assaulting a minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The judgment was pronounced by POCSO Court Judge Ram Avtar Prasad, convicting Sikandar Rajbhar for the crime. The case stemmed from an incident in 2017 when Rajbhar allegedly lured the minor girl from her home and engaged in sexual acts with her.
Assistant Government Advocate Ram Kumar Rai revealed that the accused, a resident of a village in the Kasimabad police station area, was found guilty of the offense after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint. During the trial, multiple witnesses testified before the court, leading to the conviction of Rajbhar. The police arrested him shortly after the incident, which was reported under the POCSO Act following the victim’s mother’s complaint.
The conviction of Sikandar Rajbhar was a result of the effective prosecution under the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Operation Conviction campaign. The court ruling on July 23 sentenced Rajbhar to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 under Section 8 of the POCSO Act. Additionally, he received further penalties under Sections 363 and 366 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for related offenses.
