A man in Jajpur district has been given life imprisonment for a murder in Bhubaneswar in 2021. The victim, Jharaphula Nayak, was a former student at Ramadevi Women’s University. The convict, Rakesh Swain, who worked as a plumber, had a relationship with the victim, leading to tragic consequences.
The court found that Rakesh invited Jharaphula to an OYO hotel under false pretenses and then killed her. He used a pillow to smother her after making her consume alcohol. Rakesh, along with his associate Amaresh Rout, disposed of the body in Kuakhia, Jajpur district.
Rakesh was convicted of murder, while Amaresh was found guilty of tampering with evidence. Rakesh received a life sentence, and Amaresh was sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment. The trial was conducted by Special Public Prosecutor S.S. Mohanty.
