A man in Aladakatti village near Savadatti, Karnataka, stabbed his mother-in-law, Mahadevi, due to anger over not being shown his newborn child during a video call. The incident left Mahadevi critically injured, and she is currently receiving treatment at Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Hospital. The accused, Aravind Gavali, has been apprehended by the authorities.
Concerningly, after the attack, Aravind posted a threatening message on WhatsApp, indicating his intentions. Prompt police action led to the arrest of Aravind, who is now in judicial custody. Aravind’s wife had given birth two months ago and was residing at her parental home, where Aravind had been pressuring her for frequent video calls to see the baby.
Allegedly, the situation escalated when Mahadevi advised Aravind to limit the calls, leading to verbal abuse over the phone. Subsequently, Aravind forcibly entered the house, attacked Mahadevi with a knife, and fled the scene. Mahadevi sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In a separate incident, police in August 2025 solved the Lakshmi Devi murder case in Koratagere, Tumakuru, leading to the arrest of her son-in-law, Dr. Ramachandrappa S., and two others. The case involved the brutal murder and dismemberment of Lakshmi Devi, attributed to doubts over her character by Ramachandrappa. Similarly, in January 2025, a woman named Renuka Padmuki was fatally stabbed in Belagavi district, allegedly by her son-in-law, Shubham Datta Birje, following a dispute over the care of the victim’s daughter.
