Manchester United has appointed Michael Carrick as their permanent head coach, extending his contract until 2028. Carrick, aged 44, assumed the role on an interim basis following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January. Notably, he was honored with the Premier League Manager of the Month award for his successful start, including wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
Under Carrick’s leadership, Manchester United secured qualification for the upcoming UEFA Champions League by winning 11 out of 16 matches, achieving the highest points total in the Premier League since his appointment. Carrick expressed his pride in leading the club, emphasizing the players’ resilience, togetherness, and determination.
Having been part of the coaching staff since his retirement in 2018, Carrick worked under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before assuming the caretaker manager role post-Solskjaer’s departure. With a rich history at Manchester United, Carrick played 464 games for the club, winning numerous titles and trophies during his playing career.
Jason Wilcox, the director of football at Manchester United, commended Carrick’s leadership, highlighting the positive results on the field and the alignment with the club’s values.
